I want to start career planning in our organization. We are a 100-member US-based MNC. I believe this is a strong HR tool to motivate and retain employees. Kindly help me in identifying the various steps involved in career planning.

First, you have to make the format for career planning, then you can start with this.

I don't know which performance appraisal system you are using and what parameters.

If you are using it according to their behavior/self-appraisals.

If you have parameters like Avg/Good/Very Good or similar.

First, you have to see the parameters on what basis you want to make a career plan. It is not an easy task because to retain an employee in an organization from a motivation point of view is very difficult. But don't worry, not everything in this world is difficult if you have decided to do it.

First, identify which employee is the most crucial for us; if he leaves, then the organization suffers, then you can make his career plan. You have to sit with that employee and tell him about his career plan. Show him where he currently stands and where he wants to be in 3 to 4 years.

Be very honest with your employee and make sure he will tell you everything honestly. If he has some hesitation about this, you can't help him.
