Feeling Undervalued in Admin: Should I Switch Careers or Specialize My MBA?

shrsm
I have been working in the private sector (educational) for the last 9 years. I am in administration and have been handling all administrative work. I am a commerce graduate and am now pursuing a PGDBA in Operations and an MBA in Operations. Now, I think that I should move to another field because, being a female, people have a general mindset that women can't do administrative work well. Even my boss shares this view regarding my work. I handle all records both manually and technically, keep an eye on all utilities, prepare purchase and work orders, communicate with vendors regarding utilities, and look after timely payments, etc. BUT no one values this work.

Now, I think I should change my specialization in MBA. I have a keen interest in data analysis work as I have done Oracle from NIIT but have not practiced it as I don't work on it in my daily work profile.

Hence, please suggest what I should do. Should I switch to another job in another section, i.e., HR or any other, or continue with my administrative work? If I pursue SAP in the future, which stream should I choose: Operations, HR, or Finance?

Please advise.

Considering your interest in data analysis and the challenges you face in administration, transitioning to a specialized field aligned with your passion is a strategic move. Here are some steps to guide your decision-making process:

1. Self-Assessment: Evaluate your skills, strengths, and interests to determine the best fit for your career path.
2. Research: Explore job roles in Operations, HR, and Finance to understand the responsibilities, growth prospects, and alignment with your career goals.
3. Networking: Connect with professionals in these fields to gain insights and advice on the industry trends and opportunities.
4. Skill Development: Consider pursuing additional certifications or courses in the chosen field to enhance your knowledge and credibility.
5. MBA Specialization: If you opt for SAP in the future, choose a stream that complements your career goals and offers growth prospects. Operations can be suitable for data analysis roles, HR for people-centric roles, and Finance for financial analysis positions.

By aligning your MBA specialization with your passion for data analysis and considering the industry trends, you can make an informed decision to transition to a rewarding career path.
