Is an Employee Eligible for a 2015-16 Increment After a 2014 Promotion?

THEJAS SHENAVA
In our company, we promoted one employee in October 2014 with a hike of Rs 2500. I am inquiring whether this person is eligible for an increment for the year 2015-16. Please help me out.

Thank you.

It's absolutely your management decision. We can't give a suggestion on this. You can address it by informing him that we granted you an increment in October 2014 instead of April 2015. Therefore, we will provide you with another raise in April 2016 along with all other employees. Alternatively, you can issue an increment letter stating that this raise will take effect from October 2015. Discuss this matter with your boss and make a decision accordingly.

Yes, he is eligible for the increment. However, it is not his right to receive it. The management must make a decision based on his performance and potential.

Could you please furnish the general policy on the sanction of increments on an annual percentage basis? The percentage basis could be reasonable, such as 5%, 8%, 10%, or 12%, or it could be based on the Cost of Living/Minimum wages of the relevant scheduled employment.

I believe a company should consider the CTC inclusive of the employer's contribution to PF, PF administrative charges, ESI, ESI administrative charges, and similar factors when deciding on increments and promotions.

Reasonable Intervals for Promotions

In general, what intervals, such as 5 years or 7 years, are considered reasonable for giving promotions?

While it can be argued that these decisions are based on management policy, it would be helpful to know the most widely acceptable practices.
