How to Calculate Salary for a Month with Leave: A Real-Life Scenario for HR Help

I am asking this query on behalf of my friend. My friend is working in a company where the salary cycle is from the 20th to the 20th (i.e., 20 Nov-20 Dec). He was on leave from 25 November to 25 December. His leave balance is 12, and it's a 5-day working company, i.e., Mon-Fri. So, my query is how many days of salary he will get for the current month.

Thank you for your reply. They have provided the salary slip for this month, which is December. There is no specific policy regarding weekly offs; however, Saturday and Sunday are considered as the weekly days off. Even if you take a long leave, you will still receive your salary for weekends. The salary is deposited directly into the bank account, and the gross salary amount is 17,500.

There are many companies that close attendance early. The purpose behind this is to disburse monthly paychecks by the first of every month or even earlier.

In your scenario, the attendance computation period, as it seems, should be from the 21st to the 20th. Therefore:

- November salary: There should be no deduction (Attendance from 21st Oct to 20th Nov).
- December salary: No pay (Zero Attendance from 25th Nov to 20th Dec = 26 days absence - Less 12 leave balance = 14 days deduction).
- January salary: 5 days' salary deduction (21st Dec to 25th Dec).
