Confused About Relieving vs. Experience Letter? Need Advice on What to Do Next!

laxmikant.joshi
Hi, I recently changed my job. My previous employer provided me with an experience letter when I asked for a relieving letter. He told me that the experience letter is nothing but a relieving letter. However, my current company's HR department is asking for a relieving letter, which I don't have. They have given me 90 days to submit it. When I asked my previous company about this, they are saying that the experience letter is the same as a relieving letter.

Please advise me on what I should do next. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Please read and digest the contents at https://www.citehr.com/20714-what-di...rtificate.html. Could you also tell us how your experience letter is worded? If it says that you worked at XXX from YYY date till ZZZ, then it is as good as a relieving letter.

An experience letter would help enhance your claim for a higher salary in a new job as it speaks of what you have accomplished. A relieving letter is something that releases you from the employer, making you eligible to take up another job. No reputed company will allow you to join without a relieving letter from all your previous companies.

Hence, you have to go back to your old company and get a letter relieving you as of [insert date]. (This date incidentally marks your last working day in that company.)

Understanding the Difference: Experience Letter vs. Relieving Letter

Hence, you will need to go back to your old company and obtain a letter relieving you as of [insert date], which incidentally is your last working day in that company.

If it can be merged into one letter, that would be acceptable. For instance, the subject could be: "Experience & Relieving Letter." Is that acceptable?

Understanding the Relieving Letter

A relieving letter is a written statement by the employer to the employee, stating that the employee is no longer with the organization, and from the leaving date, he/she is free from their employment conditions.

As your experience letter contains the same details, including the date of your departure from the organization and the duration of your employment until your last working day, it can serve the same purpose and be provided to your new employer. You simply need to meet with your HR representative again and reiterate the same information.
