Choosing the Right Part-Time MBA: Is Correspondence Education Worth It for Recruiters?

Hi all,

I have 2 years of experience in recruitment in the software industry. I am planning to pursue a part-time MBA. Will correspondence education help in my case (since I am working)? Can anyone suggest which of the above institutes are good? I missed out on admission at Symbiosis for this year 😢. Also, when do admissions to these respective institutes usually start?

You can do an MBA at Symbiosis or at IGNOU, but don't pursue it at ICFAI as there is no value in that. I have also heard that IIMB is offering MBA distance education. So, it's better if you pursue it at IIMB.

ICFAI is well-certified and affiliated. Let's think before we speak and avoid spreading unnecessary rumors. It can be hurtful.

I completed my MBA at ICFAI and recently secured a position as a Management Trainee-HR at an MNC with a good package. I am enjoying my job, and ICFAI has truly added value to me in various aspects.

I completed my MBA (regular) from ICFAI and recently secured a position in an MNC through campus placement as a Management Trainee in HR. I am enjoying my job and learning a lot, thanks to ICFAI. Nidhi, you're right. Even I have cleared from ICFAI and am now working as an assistant manager in HR at a manufacturing company. The institutes are good, but it depends on how you work on it as the entire schedule changes when you're a part-timer or doing correspondence.

Taking my question further... I read somewhere that ICFAI provides an MBA degree while Symbiosis provides a Diploma. Can anyone verify this? What's the duration of the ICFAI course? Do they (ICFAI) conduct weekend classes? (Unable to get info as their site is down for maintenance) Does Symbiosis have classroom facilities for PG students? Can anyone add to the list of institutes along with the course duration that provides part-time MBA/Diploma other than those mentioned above?

ICFAI conducts lectures on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They may also call on Thursdays.

Friday 6:30 to 9:30 PM

Saturday 5 to 9 PM

Sunday 10 to 2 and 2:30 to 6:30 PM

Internal evaluation consists of written assignments, classroom tests, presentations, class participation, attendance, etc.

It's a real big challenge to do a part-time MBA. It's a three-year commitment. You will have to balance between work life and academic life. Please think properly before making any decision regarding the part-time MBA program.

Recently, I enrolled in the PGHRM program at ICFAI. Admissions for the diploma have already closed. At ICFAI, there are no classes held during weekdays or weekends for the diploma program.

The admission structure requires a payment of approximately 9,990, which is close to 10,000 for the one-year diploma course. There will be four subjects in total. For the first 6 months, you will study 2 subjects, and the remaining 2 subjects will be covered in the next 6 months. Exams are scheduled for Sundays. If you have an exam for one subject this Sunday, the next Sunday will be dedicated to another subject's exam.

However, there are no campus interviews for the Diploma program. On the other hand, MBA (Regular & Correspondence) students will have the opportunity for a campus interview, which can enhance their qualifications.

Lots of discussion is going on about which institute to choose for a course. In my opinion, each institute has its own style of teaching. Additionally, Symbiosis tends to be preferred when it comes to placement.

The preference also depends on the candidate and their experience in professional life. Therefore, in my view, one can pursue an MBA or diploma as per their preference. However, before enrolling, one should consider whether a part-time course would be suitable, as it requires a lot of energy and an extra drive for studying.

This will be more beneficial in terms of job opportunities and companies offering profiles to you. If you prefer to pursue a correspondence MBA, then Symbi is a good institute, as well as ICFAI.

A regular MBA holds more weightage in the market. But since you are working, either of the institutes will be okay. The study material of SIMS and IGNOU is very good since I have seen a couple of my friends doing the same from there. I am not aware of ICFAI, but all three organizations are visible in the market. At the end of the day, how well you do in part-time courses matters - SCORING.

First of all, I would like to suggest that instead of going for a PT-MBA, consider pursuing a regular full-time MBA if possible. If you are not willing to do that, then Symbiosis and ICFAI are both well-known institutes for providing PT-MBA. Nowadays, premier institutes like IIM-A, B, C, I, K, MDI, XLRI, and IIFT also provide management education through satellite channels, which is truly worth considering. These programs are conducted by NIIT-Imperia and Hughes Network System. Please visit www.dwge.com for further details. Please note that a minimum of 3 years of work experience is necessary to apply for these programs.

Secondly, it hardly matters which institute is offering an MBA degree or diploma. Even IIMs do not provide any degree to their students. So, do not worry and choose the best option. The rest completely depends on your knowledge, skills, and positive attitude to perform in the corporate world.

In my opinion, please don't go for Symbi or ICFAI for MBA Distance learning as nowadays every second person is doing this course, and it doesn't carry any value in the job market. Passing the exams of these institutes is damn simple and easy. Frankly, there is no real learning from these courses, and people are just using them as a rubber stamp.

Frankly, in my opinion, if you have a certain amount of experience in HR, then you should go for E-learning courses offered by all top B-Schools like IIM's & XLRI. You can get information about the courses through www.dwge.com & www.niitimperia.com or go to the XLRI website; currently, they are offering a course on HR. Personally, the courses offered are really qualitative and helpful, and simultaneously, they hold value. I have even done a course at IIMA from NIIT Imperia. I believe it depends on Sneha or other candidates like her, their personality traits, etc. It doesn't matter where you are from; what ultimately counts are your qualities, regardless of the institute you choose.

Have you done your degree from ICFAI? If your answer is no, then stop spreading these rumors about ICFAI. Actually, you know some lazy people who don't want to make extra efforts and want a degree as easy as a piece of cake. It's emphasized to go to Symbiosis (Symbi) instead of ICFAI because, in comparison to Symbiosis, the curriculum is quite tough but current and offers updated knowledge. If you have some knowledge about UGC grants, then ICFAI has one. So, first, update your knowledge and then give advice to others.

IGNOU could be one of the good options for pursuing an MBA. It offers specializations in Operations, Finance, Marketing, and HR. It is a 2.5-year program with 21 subjects spread across 5 semesters, with 4 subjects per semester. A case study is considered as two subjects. The cost per subject is 1000. The books provided by IGNOU are written by experienced faculty from various reputed brands, such as IIM.

Hi, I am Yasmin. I am pursuing a correspondence MBA from IGNOU with a duration of 2 to 2 and a half years. Classes are held on Sundays (fixed) and sometimes in the evenings on working days. We are required to prepare assignments, presentations, contributions, case studies, etc. Attendance is monitored, and lectures take place at any of the partner institutions. On our side, it is N L College in Malad (W), Mumbai.

If it's regular, does it involve going to college and attending full-day classes? On the other hand, if it's part-time, is it as valuable, and what will be the class timings? I also came across a conversation where it was mentioned that part-time MBA takes 3 years and might be challenging to learn. Is correspondence the same as part-time, especially with Symbiosis? Additionally, have the admissions for the MBA at Symbiosis started?
