Feeling Idle During Morning Hours? Seeking Advice on Making My Time More Productive

I am working as an EXECUTIVE SECRETARY in a US-based company. I will be working in the evening hours (IST) only. Most probably, during the morning sessions, I would be simply sitting and surfing the net :cry: :cry: Now, I don't want to waste my time simply being idle :? :? Can you seniors guide me in the right way so that my time will be used effectively?

My role involves reporting and maintaining my CEO's (who is in the US) schedule. I am also designated as a Project Coordinator, wherein I will report project-related issues to my IT Manager, who is also in the US. I will then relay the issues to the developers and other relevant individuals. Additionally, I will schedule appointments for company staff to meet with my CEO and manage the timings. I will assist the IT Manager, India CEO, and Project Leader with paperwork. Furthermore, I will support my HR Manager with various assignments. Our company is currently engaged in H1B Visa processing, for which I will contact candidates and arrange meetings with my CEO, who is based in the US.

You should enroll in a distance learning course, preferably in HR (or any other faculty of your choice). You can study during morning hours. Symbiosis in Pune could be a good option to consider. Utilize the internet to your maximum benefit for learning through e-modules and reference course materials.

Exploring CiteHR is beneficial. However, enrolling in a course will provide a more structured and value-adding experience to your career.

I think that since the company is paying for your time, you have to work for the benefit of the company. You can change your work timing to match the US. You can spend the morning session preparing for your afternoon sessions, improving your performance. Pick up skills that will be useful for your job. If the work does not require 8 hours, you can consider it as a part-time job (renegotiate your contract) and take up some other part-time work.

I am also working as an Executive Secretary in an MNC. I suggest giving some time to the Administration department/HR department. It will improve your in-house skills and prepare you to become a good administrator or AM (P&A) in the future.

Speak to your boss about it. First, he will be impressed that at least somebody is there who wants to work and is utilizing her time. Secondly, he/she will give you a solution to it. Don't you think it will be more relevant?

Maybe it's too early for you to go to work. Graduation is very important, so finish graduation first. Anyways, there are many HR professionals who are underqualified, but just because of their communication skills, they are in the market. So, focus on increasing your knowledge. In the long run, it's not good; you need to have a good education.

Since you want to pursue extraordinary studies and acquire education, which is the most powerful of all! 😉

An idle person's brain is a devil's workshop. You could look around and choose to do the following:

1. Improvise and improve current processes.
2. Since you coordinate projects, you can learn MS Project, which is great software that will help you in maintaining and tracking projects.
3. Go for a skill-based course - a secretarial course (if you have not done one already).
4. Work on your self-inventory - grooming, personality, and presentation skills.
5. Build up your self-esteem and confidence levels.
