Can an Adopted Child Receive Pension Benefits After a Retired Employee's Passing? Seeking Guidance and Procedures

fastanurag
I would like to know if any employee is working with the Central or State Government and has retired. The employee has adopted a child after retirement. Will the adopted child receive the benefit of the employee's pension after the employee's death? If yes, what procedure should be followed in this regard? Can this adopted child also withdraw any employee funds available with the employer? Please also suggest where I can find rulings, guidelines, or any case reports supporting such benefits for adopted children.

Thanks & Regards

As far as I know, an adopted child after retirement is not entitled to family pension after the retiree's death. Better go through the Central Pension Rules and those of the respective State Rules.

Mr. Korgaonkar has brought out a valid point. These criteria were introduced in the year 2000. However, people can retire before 55 from Government service, like in the Armed forces. In the Armed forces, ORs (individuals below Officer rank) retire from the age of 35 onwards. Therefore, the policy letters/notifications as mentioned in the previous post can be referred to.

Query on Post-Retirement Benefits for Unmarried Officers

Thank you all for the information provided. I have a slightly different query. How about a single, unmarried, childless officer of central services? She remains, till now, a spinster of about 55 years old, about to retire on superannuation at 58 or 60. Will she have the option of introducing an adopted female (or male) adult to receive post-retirement benefits? Furthermore, could the adopted adult be her nominee for bank accounts and other properties of the employee? This is a case referred to me, and I would like learned members to guide us in this matter.

In the case of an unmarried government servant - father, mother, stepmother only - are entitled to family pension.

What are the entitlements of a pensioner upon death? The basic entitlement is only family pension. Lifetime arrears may also arise if death occurs during service. For that matter, in the PPO, a nominee would already have been named to receive the benefit on behalf of all claimants.
