New EPF Appellate Tribunal in Bengaluru: What It Means for Southern Indian States

New EPF Appellate Tribunal Established

The Central Government has constituted another EPF Appellate Tribunal, which will be functioning from Bengaluru. It will have jurisdiction over the Southern Indian States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Goa, as well as the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.

The existing EPF Appellate Tribunal in New Delhi shall deal with appeals emanating from the remaining States of India.

The copy of the Notification S.O.2838(E) dated 7th November 2014, published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary Part II – Section 3 – Sub Section (ii), is attached for information.

Abolition of EPF Appellate Tribunal

The Government of India abolished the EPF Appellate Tribunal at Delhi and Bengaluru via a notification dated 26-05-2017. Previously, appeals against orders under Section 7A of the EPF Act were filed before the EPF Appellate Tribunal. Now, all cases that were to be filed before the EPF Appellate Tribunal at Delhi and Bengaluru will be heard by the Central Government Industrial cum Labour Courts (CGIT) situated at 22 locations in India. Directions from the Ministry are attached.
