Navigating Childcare Leave for Contract Employees: How to Handle Job Start Delays?

Hey everyone, my wife has recently received an offer at a government hospital on a contract basis in Chandigarh, which follows Punjab civil services laws. Recently, with God's blessings, we welcomed a baby boy, and now my wife needs some time to take care of the baby. The job's start date is almost a month away, and we are contemplating whether to request an extension of the job offer or to apply for childcare leave after joining, which is approximately 3 months. Despite my efforts to review various Punjab civil services laws, I have not been able to find clear information for contract employees. Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to add that we have been told that you cannot take an extension. Is there any facility available that can allow us to take an extension from the job?
