Employee's Sexual Orientation Matter JOB's And Companies?

cpatel05
Simple and straight query...
Does Employee's Sexual Orientation matter JOB's and companies?
Harsh Shukla
It should not, but it does.
Unless it is stamped out at grassroots level, companies are losing out on a tremendous amount of talent.
And then where does this type of discriminatory thinking and attitude end?
Tall people verses short people?
Large verses thin?
Married or Single?

I echo Harshad. There is no end to discrimination. Biases knows no logic.
However, discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is sector specific. IT, Private Banking and Outsourcing have very stern policies on such acts of discrimination. Any case reported gets severely punished. Equal employment opportunity is a prime part of employer Code Of Conduct.
May we ask , what did you face ?

I personally believe, sexual choice is an individual's personal.
However, as long as his or her performance pertaining to allotted job is not effected, organisation's decorum is not disturbed, working atmosphere within and organisaion's image not damaged and these kinds of acts are not happening within the organisation's precincts & within the working hours, why organisations should stop an individual or how one can be stopped from his / her personal choices..
In such instances draw a clear line what to do, where & when.

Gender/Sexual orientation does not matters to job, but highly matters to the profile due to assignments & tasks

Hi everyone,
In any company, the work culture that is prevailing and the values that the company stands for is very important to thwart / minimise the evils of the query raised.
What we see in practice is, discrimination in one way or other, sexual orientation being no exception.
While matured organizations have a lower degree of inequality, it is prevalent to a high level in an autocratic set up.

No organisation/company ever have sexual orientation, the holders are so, the sexuality differs in the eyes of holders, who want to exploit the others for various reasons, in these scenario it is relevant when the aberration from the natural form of work seen the sexual orientation crop up from the basic level of holding the post. In fact when the employment recruitment board fails to get a right employee, the holder who acquired the less competent would indulge in many a other activities to hold the post and these prevails sexual orientation and biased approach in the organisation. The bodily language is the worst of the bias and every one exploit the situation and degrade the other in higher position. These is also a fact that the one at the higher echelon want an employee who obey his/her orders and not who can prove himself good in the long run and the exploitation cannot be vitiated.

Thus sexual orientation never matters in a job, and the holders do with the bias, suspicion, untrust etc.,

In most the companies policy wise there will not any discrimination, they will proudly claim that the company is free from all sort of bias , but in reality there are lot of discrimination . As I discussed in some other thread they have issue with unmarried woman at marriageable age, divorced relationship, woman with small kids, gay or lesbian relationship, dark skin ( some companies will not hire dark not so good looking woman for HR /admin/front office job). I am an HR professional , my colleagues from other department usually make issues in hiring resources with above issues in there department.

In western countries, discrimination in job based on sexual orientation is illegal. In India, we can still get away with that.

Let me recall an incident which happened a few years back. There was a post for typist cum data entry operator in one company. After many tests and a round of interview, there was a tie between a male and a female interviewee. The employer was biased towards male. As per his logic, the female would marry in some time. She would not be able to sit back late if needed. The company was looking for a long term career with the new recruit. The female will not be tough to handle pressure.

I guess they were preconceived notions of the employer. Inspite of the female candidate doing better in the last round of interview, the male candidate was selected. The HR stood dumb as the employer himself had his notion told to them.

As a shock to the employer and the company, the new male recruit left the company in around two months as he got a better opportunity overseas. It was the peak time of the year and the female candidate was sought. The company got her as she was looking around for a job. She continued with the company for many years, even after she was married, had two kids and the employer had to apologize to her at one point.

Today, HR is being replaced with "Talent". There is so much happening around the world. If we are still stuck with gender issues at workplace, then we have no right to call ourselves 'Professionals".
