How to Handle Unethical Practices by Relatives of the Unit Head in a Winding-Down Phase?

srupadam
Dear Seniors,

I have decided to write this after thinking several times in my mind whether sharing this is right or wrong.

Current Situation in My Role

I am working in a very reputed Indian MNC as the Plant HR Head. Like any other unit, in my unit, there are a lot of people working who are direct or indirect relatives of the Unit Head. They are taking unwanted advantage of this and doing unethical things, which are against the company's (including the Unit Head's) policy. I have directly discussed this with the Unit Head and also informed top management. However, since our unit is in a winding-down phase, nobody seems to care much about it.

Challenges and Concerns

All these things are making me uncomfortable working in this unit. However, at the same time, I am neither getting transferred to another business nor receiving any job openings from other organizations (luck is not in my favor).

Some seniors may say this is my immaturity in coping with the situation, or maybe I am facing such a situation for the first time in my HR career. But these are not my cup of tea. If I find anything wrong, I would inform the same to the concerned person, whether in the current organization or any other organization.

Kindly give your advice on this.

Thanks

With reference to your subject, I would like to mention that from my point of view, you have done your duty by escalating unethical happenings to the employer. Now the ball is in their court, so you need not worry about the happenings.

It is clear that after knowing about this, your employer is not ready to take any action, which means he is not interested due to your unit being in a winding-down phase (so nobody is paying much attention to that), as stated by you.

Hence, the better option is to search for another job and start preparing for interviews as that is the only good you can do, or utilize your time to add some value to yourself.

Yogesh Pawar.

As long as you are clean and not doing anything wrong, don't worry. Be diplomatic and work there until you find another job. My advice is not to resign unless you find something else.

Sorry to note the state of affairs. Like others have said, you need not worry, as you have already flagged it. When you go for interviews, kindly do not mention anything about this unethical behavior of others.

I do agree with this. Sometimes we need to either cope or leave the place peacefully.

Challenges in a Healthcare Unit

Good morning everybody, same situation here but the scenario is a bit different in a healthcare unit. In fact, a couple of trustees are politically affiliated, and even one of them is a standing member of the local municipal corporation. With their references, we have a bunch of employees disturbing the flow of day-to-day activities. We can't take action, can't say anything; in fact, we stand in the firing line.

Such unethical practices cause a lot of mental stress, emotional breakdowns, loss of confidence, and depression. But thanks to my family and a couple of colleagues who gave me support in this nonsensical situation. As said by other colleagues, we are awaiting the right opportunity to move out, and until then, staying diplomatic and mostly mum.

Thank you.

It is difficult to tackle things when they go out of our range. We must present the issue to our superior (to whom we are reporting) with all facts and figures. You have done your duty in highlighting the issues. If the employer/head is not taking action, you need not worry. But one thing you must know - you should keep everything in writing to your boss in a confidential note and also maintain a diary. If tomorrow anybody questions, you can show the work you have done so that you are not blamed at a later date. There are a lot of avenues in HR if you search properly. I advise that it is better to leave the company as one cannot carry out their job peacefully with the prevailing circumstances.

Best of luck!

Regards
