Stuck with a 1-Month Notice but Only Have a Week: How Can I Join My New Job on Time?

I have been working at a company for the last 3 months, and I don't want to continue here. I sent my resignation to my manager a few days ago, but I haven't applied in the automated tool yet. I have received an offer from a new organization to start in a week. Unfortunately, as per my current company's policy, I am required to serve a 1-month notice period, but I only have one week left.

I have informed my new company that I have not been working for the past 3 months. If I tell them the truth, they might not accept me because they would question my commitment. Please advise on how to handle this situation. If I apply for a 1-week notice period in the tool and they disagree, what will happen? I must join the new organization at all costs, or else I will not survive.

Consider the Consequences of Dishonesty

You should have thought of your survival before telling lies to your interviewer. What happens if your new employer discovers that you were on the payroll of the existing company? The consequences are something you can imagine. Lies do not bring good results.

The only advice I can give you is to try to negotiate with your existing company for a Notice Period Buyout if you have any, and exit smoothly.

Mr. Saji has rightly said that you should have been transparent with your new employer and informed them of the reasons for your desire to quit your current job. Please carefully review your Terms of Employment in your Appointment letter and Company Policy related to Employee Exit.

Probation Period and Notice Period

I assume that you are in a probation period in your current organization. Generally, in most organizations, the notice period during the probation period is less than a month, and only after you get confirmed, the notice period is one month. This is for junior and middle levels. At the senior level, the notice period during probation is one month.

Firstly, you will have to send your resignation through the automated tool. You can check the notice period during probation and accordingly discuss with your current employer. Also, simultaneously, you can start your handover so that they can relieve you at the earliest. If they insist on one month, you can ask them to deduct notice pay.

Consequences of Misleading Information

By misleading your new employer on your employment status, you have created a problem for yourself. Your current employer will issue you a relieving letter/work experience certificate mentioning the date on which you will be relieved. Also, if your new employer undertakes past employment verification, they will come to know the truth. Please avoid such things in the future.
