Curious About the Factories Act 1948? Which Industries Are Actually Covered?

Dear Professionals, could anyone share with me the list of industries covered under the Factories Act 1948?

Any activity that can be termed as "manufacturing activity" and employs 10 or more people and uses "power" (or 20 or more people without the use of power) will conform to the definition of a "factory" under the Factories Act. It will be helpful if you kindly refer to Sec. 2 (Definitions) of the Factories Act. If you have any specific queries, please feel free to ask!

To add to what Mr. Samvedan has written, as per Section 85 of the Factories Act, the state government has the power to declare any factory where fewer than 10 workers are employed to be a factory. Therefore, an establishment manufacturing paint with only 3 employees is considered a factory that requires a license and other formalities provided in the Factories Act. Hence, the applicability can be tested only with reference to Section 85 as well.

Instead of asking for a list of industries covered under the Factories Act, if you inquire about the activities not covered under the Factories Act, you will likely receive a list of non-covered activities under the Act.

Thank you for such a nice suggestion. It would be really great if you could let me know the activities which are not covered under the Factories Act 1948.
