It's very simple.

The first half, HR STRANGE, signifies the complexity of human nature (manpower), and the second half, BUT TRUE, signifies the oneness in diversity.

Hello,

More than one person makes a group, and more than one group makes an organization, so there are many different personalities and so many differences of opinion (the first part of your quote).

Here, there is one person extremely extroverted and one extremely introverted working in the same team, reporting to a person who possesses the same third personality trait. But all of them are focused and working for a common goal and get success (Second part of your Quote).

This is what forms the whole thing as:

HR IS STRANGE BUT TRUE

Thank you, Richa. But I think there is no need to hurry; let all those who visit share their views so that we can have more clarity on it. Once again, thank you.

Exactly true, the meaning specified above. Another meaning can be that it might have been written by a person who could be confused 😱 about the role of HR 🌀 and would be surprised by its role in an organization 💡. More details can be known after reading the article.

This is an innocent comment from a non-HR person who observes the management process from outside. Throughout the year, there is minimal quantifiable/visible contribution from the HR department that he thinks the department is nonexistent, which is STRANGE. But at the end of the year, he understands the contribution by the department. He accepts the significance of the department and its very existence. Hence, TRUE.

If you look at the opening page of this blog, http://mypyp.wordpress.com/, from the kinds of books people have written, I am sure there must be millions of people trapped in the wrong jobs. Avoiding square pegs in round holes is the primary job of HR, though how much it happens, God alone knows - strange but true.

This may disappoint some of you, but the term 'HR Strange But True' merely denotes the stories that appear in various forums, blogs, etc., that highlight the 'strange' side of HR in organizations. Some of the strange stories include the one about an elderly worker adopting a younger co-worker as his daughter, some amusing job promotion gimmicks by Monster.com, the story behind the origin of 'National Boss Day,' etc. Do a Google search on 'HR Strange But True,' and you will find scores of such write-ups there.

Dear Shilpa,

HR Strange But True! I could interpret as Human relationship is strange since it is impossible to read another person's mind. Everybody has unique features and qualities, etc. Despite these facts, we tend to explore and manage things. We still depend on somebody or the other. After all, man is a Social Animal. So it can be considered as True.

Hi,

If you say that these lines are from a book, blog, or a posting, then they are written to make people read it. Like when you posted the query, see the amount of replies you got. Basically, it is a way of marketing where you create an eagerness in the mind of the person who reads it. So, this is basically a marketing gimmick.

I hope I am right.

Thank you,
Octavious

Hi all,

Just gone through all the replies got over here, and it seems we all are using almost similar terminology for this quoted sentence. Anyways, I am also very new to this site and thrilled to be a member of the same. With my 10 years of experience in HR, I would say that we keep on tackling different mindsets on a daily basis, but it always depends on how carefully and gently you can read those minds. I am sure afterward we feel that being in HR, we are in a much better world, and no more strange feelings stick to it. You should always have a personal touch in your daily transactions with your employees (makes a good rapport). That makes one a good HR professional. I think that comes gradually as we grow.
