Facing Unpaid Salary and Unfair Treatment in a Family Business: How Should I Proceed?

Handling Workplace Challenges in a Family-Run Business

I have been working for a family-run business as a Manager. For the last month, I have been subjected to a lot of mental trauma through no fault of mine (e.g., a buyer has not given approval for artwork, but the Managing Partner insists they have given approval, and I am asked to pay a 25% penalty for negligence). Excess payment has been made to the supplier due to a mistake committed by the accounts department, and I am being asked to cover that cost simply because I am the Manager.

I tried to submit my resignation letter to the Managing Partner but was not given the opportunity. Therefore, I sent an email with the attachment and left the original on the Managing Partner's desk (for the past month, the Managing Partner has been avoiding meeting with me). While there has been no official communication regarding the acceptance of my resignation, in some emails, they have mentioned that I should continue my duties until the end of the notice period.

Furthermore, my salary for August 2014 has not been paid, and despite my requests via email, there has been no communication regarding this issue.

Please advise on how best to handle this situation.

Regards,
Chari

Employment in Managerial Roles and Labor Law Protection

Being employed in a managerial capacity, you will not be able to get the protection of labor laws. Therefore, it is advised to wait until the notice period is over and collect your unpaid salary along with other terminal benefits with full and final settlement.

In the meantime, you should be open to the Managing Partner and discuss things to clarify any confusions. Failing to do so, you will not receive a proper reference from your employer, which is required to advance your career.
