Positive Responses to Employee Resignation

If an employee wants to leave the organization for better prospects, there are two ways an employer can positively respond:

• He shall recognize the employee's right to pursue better opportunities and ensure that he gets proper relieving and service certificates. On the day of his exit, wish him a good career ahead and let him also know that the doors are open to him if he wishes to rejoin later. This kind of response exudes warmth and does not burn bridges.

• In the second kind of response, if the employee leaving is a critical resource and the employer wants to retain him, the employer can call the employee, inquire about the offer, and make a counteroffer with a better job profile, promotion, or compensation as per the demands of the situation. If the employee still wants to leave, the employer shall follow the steps in point (1).
