Choosing Between an MBA in HR or PGDHR: Which Path Should I Take for My HR Career?

I am newly joined with an HR team in a hospital. Even though I have completed my Master's Degree in Hospital Management, I personally feel it would be better if I pursue a specialization in HR because I have decided to develop my career in the HR field. I don't know which one would be better to go with, an MBA with HR or a PGDHR.

As far as I can suggest, go in for PGDHR because an MBA course gets updated in 4-5 years, sometimes even 8 years. On the other hand, a PDGHR is constantly updated, which facilitates better learning. I am myself doing an MBA, so I can give you a fair idea. They usually have problems with doing projects and all. If at all you get admission in an MBA course, then before joining, evaluate the benefits and the lacunae in the university procedures.

I disagree. No doubt some PGDHR programs may be updated regularly, but that does not imply that MBA programs are not updated frequently. Can you name any of the top 50 institutes in India that do not update their MBA courses every 2 years, including the latest case studies (as recent as today's newspapers)? MBA offers a more comprehensive view of business, while PGDHR provides specialized vertical knowledge. The decision of which path to choose is yours. However, in your case, I recommend pursuing an MBA in hospital management. This program will not only expose you to HR management but also to general management principles.

For distance education, I would recommend IGNOU. There are lots of universities offering distance education programs. Try Symbiosis or NMIMS if interested.

Thank you for your response. Can you suggest the best institutes for doing an MBA through correspondence?

According to me, an MBA by correspondence is not a true MBA. A full-time MBA not only provides bookish knowledge but also focuses on developing presentation skills, leadership skills, event management skills, team-building, and teamwork. These practical skills are best acquired through a full-time program.

If you still prefer the correspondence route, I recommend checking out IGNOU as it is considered one of the best options. Alternatively, you could consider a part-time or executive MBA if you are short on time and already working.

I am basically confused about the university I should opt for to do my PGDHRM. I have two options: 1. NMIMS 2. Symbiosis Distance Education. Which one is better and holds more weightage? I am currently working as a secretary but would like to pursue a career in HR.

Any suggestions?
