Confused About My Last Working Day: Can I Leave on Saturday Instead of Monday?

CA NAGARJUNA
Dear all, please help me in understanding the relieving date. I have resigned from a job in a reputed bank, and as per approval, my last working date will be 14-Sep-2014, which is a Sunday. So, can I get relieved on Saturday (13-Sep-2014), or do I need to work one more day, i.e., till Monday (15-Sep-2014)? Kindly help me. Thank you in advance.

If your last day falls on a Sunday, then your relieving will be on Saturday.

Yes, you can get relieved on Saturday, the 13th of September 2014. The benefits will be extended up to the 14th of September 2014.

In my opinion, relieving can only be done on a working day. Hence, your relieving can either be on 13/09/14 or 15/09/14. Your employer may not be willing to settle your Full and Final Settlement on 13/09/14 and provide a relieving letter on the next day, being Sunday.
