Should I Stay in a Low-Paying Job with Uncertain Future Prospects? Seeking Your Advice

Dear Seniors, Greetings to you all! I have around 17 years of work experience in different domains such as administration, HR, and secretarial roles. Currently, I am working in a start-up software and staffing company for the past year. I accepted this position at a low salary and with working hours from 10 am to 3:30 pm as the partners of this company are relatives of a friend.

When I joined, there were three technical staff, all freshers. Subsequently, two staff members resigned, and two new technical staff were recruited. The partners mentioned having projects in the pipeline, but almost a year has passed since I joined, and I am unsure about the company's future direction. I am also feeling that there is limited opportunity for value addition in my current role.

I seek your advice on whether I should continue with this company. Your insights are greatly appreciated.

You are the best judge for this situation. If you feel that your talent or expertise is not being utilized to the fullest or not being used at all, then there are two things you can do:

1. Ask for more relevant work from the employers.
2. Look for a new job and resign from the company.

Once the feeling of lethargy sets in, you will find it difficult to leave behind your comfort levels.

When we think practically, before joining this company, you need to be aware of future events. You are running in reverse mode with 17 years of experience, so it would be better to change jobs before it's too late. Before joining any company, consider what you may gain from it (both knowledge and salary are important).

I was working in an MNC, but since they relocated to a far-off place, I had to resign from my job. In the meantime, I received an offer to manage the company, thinking I could provide value addition with my experience and skills. However, as they have not generated any business even after a year, I am confused about my next step.
