If the present company where I am working as HR is about to be acquired or merged by another company, does the HR job/profile vanish? Will they omit me from the new organization? Is there any danger or threat to the HR professional working in the company that is getting acquired?

Normally, in a merger, the employees are balanced, and care is taken so that no one loses their job. However, in a few cases, the company which takes over or has the larger investment may have a say in which departments' employees they do not want. This is typically specified in the merger terms. Therefore, approach the management, gather feedback, and then you will know if you may encounter any issues or not.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but it's prudent to be futuristic and recognize what is imminent. Visualize and think ahead about what could be possible. I can't dispel your fear as we can't predict the outcome. If you seek encouraging words, that's fine, but being ignorant won't solve your problem.

Furthermore, you haven't mentioned your years of service or experience in your current company. On the positive side, analyze why the new company should retain you over your manager. It's possible that the new company may retain employees like you to cut costs. The new company may have specific manpower policies that favor younger employees. Until you receive a termination notice, keep guessing.

In cases of mergers, authorities usually circulate offers or seek willingness for takeover. Those not retained might receive compensation. If you don't receive an offer while others do, it indicates your chances. Stay optimistic but be prepared for the worst. You may find better placements if you are let go.
