Changing Factory Work Hours: Do We Need Approval from the Inspector?

Ramesh enni
If we make any changes to the working hours of employees who work in the factory, is there any rule that requires us to seek approval or permission from the factory inspector?

You need to follow the requirements of the Industrial Disputes Act and Standing Orders for making changes in work times. Since this amounts to a change in the conditions of employment, you will need the approval of the workers or their union. You also need to intimate the change to the factory inspector.

You must update your shift and work timings in Form-11 (Notice of Period of Adult Workers and Children) and send two copies to the Inspector of Factories for approval. The approved copy will be sent back to you from the DCIF Office. Then, you should display this Form-11 on your main notice board.
