Feeling Guilty About My Campus Interview: Will My Job Offer Be at Risk?

I'm John. I attended an "ON-CAMPUS" interview at my college. The eligibility criteria set by the company were "70% until the 7th semester." We provided original marksheets until the 6th semester, in which I secured "70.23%." Even though the results were announced for the 7th semester, and I received "69.12%," since I didn't receive the marksheets, I didn't consider it and attended the campus. During the interview, when HR asked about the percentage, I mentioned that I only have marksheets until the 6th semester and don't know about the 7th-semester percentage. The interview concluded, and fortunately, I got selected by that company.

Now, I feel guilty that I made a mistake and fear missing this opportunity at an MNC. I am worried that if they find out after I join, they may send me back home.

I have been told by some seniors working in other corporates that once a company selects a new employee, they focus on talent and skills rather than percentages. I am currently in a state of uncertainty, unsure if I will lose the job.

Please share your views, ideas, and suggestions related to my situation.

Please inform HR now that you have received the mark sheet, and the marks you obtained are 69.12. It's far better to be honest and not lose sleep over it. Otherwise, the fear of being caught will bother you.

Dear John, please call the company's HR department and inform them of the marks you have received. Also, explain to them that you wanted this information to be communicated to the company beforehand to address any issues proactively. Most companies will appreciate this gesture.

What you have said is bordering on a "white lie." The worst that can happen is that they take back the offer. However, your conscience will be clear, and you can sleep with ease. It's worth taking the risk.

Normally, the eligibility criteria will be the aggregate percentage. If the company's criteria are 70%, it refers to the aggregate of all semesters. Please study hard and secure a higher percentage in the 8th semester so that your aggregate percentage will increase. Before they send you the offer letter, there will be several formalities where you have to provide a lot of information along with your marks for all 8 semesters. You don't have to worry if your aggregate of 8 semesters is more than 70%. You have not cheated them, and you don't have to feel guilty. Even after selection, some companies don't send the offer letters to all selected candidates for various reasons.
