Job Description and Career Alignment

What is the job description? If it does not have anything to do with HR, then it might not be a good idea if you want to pursue a career in HR.

I have corrected the spelling and punctuation errors in your text. I have also adjusted the paragraph formatting with a single line break between paragraphs. The original meaning and tone of the message have been preserved.

For a successful career in HR, you have to begin by focusing on HR-related functions such as Recruitment, Training & Development, Legal Compliances, Payroll, etc. Please ensure the same before joining any organization.

Thanks!

Career Path Decision: Admin vs. HR

Hello all, I have completed my M.B.A. with a specialization in HR. I have just been shortlisted by an MNC in the travel industry for an admin position. Will it be useful for my future?

Dear Anagha,

Administrative tasks are numerous, repetitive, and involve serving all departments and staff, whereas HR-related activities are more limited and target-oriented. With my 26 years of experience in the private industry, I would like to inform you that admin-related jobs can be thankless. Your efforts may go unappreciated, and completing all tasks on time can be challenging due to resource constraints. Ultimately, the admin in charge may be held responsible for any delays or deviations.

Starting your career as an HR Executive might be a better option. Begin as a Trainee HR to learn various activities such as CV screening, candidate shortlisting, conducting preliminary interviews, issuing appointment orders, handling joining formalities, managing time office functions, providing payroll support services, and ensuring compliance with regulations like ESIC, PF, minimum wages, workmen's compensation, GPAP, and Group Health insurance. On the other hand, focusing solely on HR activities may limit your career growth. It's essential to take on additional responsibilities that combine HR with functions like Admin, Training, IR, etc.

Regards,
NVS

At the end, it reduces to only one thing: which job makes you happy? Is it a company where you are doing admin work, or a small company where you want to do HR-related work?

Thank you.

Ok, but can this job in a placement agency help me boost my career in HR? The admin work is all sales-oriented.

Thanks and Regards,
Anagha Pathak
