Stuck in Limbo: How Long Should Resignation Acceptance Take and What Can I Do?

I need support on this: I sent my resignation letter 2 days ago to my manager with a copy to HR (both by email and hard copy). However, the new company requires acceptance of the resignation letter before issuing the offer and appointment letter. My reporting manager now states that it will take one week just to provide acceptance. I have a few questions:

Questions Regarding Resignation Acceptance

1) Is there a specific turnaround time for accepting a resignation letter?
2) If the notice has been issued but acceptance is pending, what does this mean for my notice period (I have given a 1-month notice)?
3) Is there a procedure to escalate directly to HR if my reporting manager is intentionally delaying the process?

I require urgent assistance. Please advise.

You have already intimated HR through CC. You can follow up with HR; I don't see any harm in doing this.

Turnaround Time for Resignation Acceptance

There is no TAT as such for accepting resignation. Technically, the notice period starts from the date on which you tender your resignation, but in order to have a good relationship with the employer, most outgoing employees consider it from the date of acceptance.

Acknowledgment and Relieving Letter Process

Any letter delivered must be acknowledged by the receiver. The acknowledgment is sufficient for the new employer to process the offer letter. A relieving letter may be produced at the time of joining.

Thank you for your kind reply. I had a little hesitation to skip my boss to reach HR, but in the end, I called HR. As you mentioned, my HR team confirmed that my last working date will be as I mentioned in the notice period, and they also confirmed that my notice period has started from the day I issued the notice. The only thing is, they will wait for 2 days for my boss to accept my resignation; otherwise, they said they will make it happen. Once again, thank you for your valuable input. I feel relaxed now.
