Overtime Calculation Confusion: How to Count Hours with Mixed Shifts and Leave?

Calculation Doubt

If an employee completes a 4-day duty followed by a day of duty with overtime (8 hours + 8 hours) and then takes a leave the next day within the same week, what would be the overtime amount earned? Is it 7 hours, 8 hours, or 0 hours? Please advise.

Dear Mr. Vidhyanand, please let us understand the case completely. Before reaching a conclusion on the OT payment, it is essential to know the type of leave the employee took on the next day.

Thank you.

Overtime should be paid double on an employee's wages/gross salary. This means if an employee works 4 hours in a day as overtime (OT), they are entitled to receive 8 hours' wages/gross salary as overtime payment.

For example, if an employee's per day wage is Rs. 400/-, and they have worked 4 hours OT on a particular day, they will receive Rs. 400/- as overtime, in addition to their salary for that day.

I hope this is clear.

Janardan
