Hi Seniors, I have been given a task by my manager to train my interns in HR. Please do me a favor by guiding me on how to train them and the steps to be followed accordingly.

Are they summer interns from an MBA school? Or are they trainees/interns who will be absorbed later? In any case, training them in HR activities is a huge task. You can start by breaking down the training into smaller parts. Depending on the size, you can decide to train them on a few HR-related processes. As you know, HR deals with a tremendous amount of confidential information. So, you need to be careful while involving them in intricate processes.

Recruitment and Legal Compliance

Recruitment and legal compliance can be a good start. If yours is a huge company, then you must be involved in extensive recruitment processes. Make them a part of it. I am sure there are many more ways to train them on the job. HR training, in a classroom setup, tends to involve a lot of talk and not much practical or useful information. The best HR training happens while you are at work, as per my experience.

Just make a daily training program for them; this should include theory as well as practical training. Before making the training program, keep in mind the duration.

Theory Training

In the theory parts, start with the Factory Act 1948, State Shops Act, organization's standing orders, vision and mission of the organization, and history of the organization.

HR Training Components

Include the HR parts afterwards: trainings (induction and regular), attendance software (data), payrolls, policy on contractual workers. Include all of the organization's policies, evacuation procedures, welfare activities, and more.

Take a serious look at confidential data, as mentioned by Adityasoak.

Hope this will help you in a better way!

They are interns and will be absorbed later. As they are recently graduated candidates, they need detailed training in HR. Please provide any notes you have on that.

If possible, try to provide more details. You have mentioned that you need to train them in HR in detail. As you are aware, HR is a vast subject, and you need to decide what profile you would be assigning to these interns once your organization absorbs them. Then you can decide on what aspects of HR you can train the interns. Plus, you need to understand very clearly your capabilities of training the interns. If you can give the relevant details, I am sure I can help you out. And very importantly, the forum members can come to your rescue.

Alex

Firstly, thank you all for your valuable inputs. We are going to incorporate them into the core HR function. I have conducted two classes on HR policies, principles, and their importance in the organization.

I have one question: should I proceed with the core HR process, or do I need to provide any insights regarding HR before delving into the actual subject (meaning, creating an understanding of how HR is beneficial for the organization)?
