How Do Different States Classify Workers Under Minimum Wages? Seeking Your Insights

Dear all Readers/Members,

I would like to request you to share with me the classification of workers under Minimum Wages as I need the same. To exemplify, a security guard comes under semi-skilled labor in Delhi but is considered unskilled labor in other states. The same goes for other categories of workers. I understand that it varies from state to state but have not found this classification in the minimum wages rules of various states and also on the internet. Can I request your valuable feedback on this?

Regards,
Rohit

Please go through the minimum wages booklet. You will find the classification in it.

Thank you.

There is no uniformity when it comes to the fixing of minimum wages exclusively for security personnel. The Govt. of NCT of Delhi has listed 29 Scheduled employments under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, but no separate rates of minimum wages have been fixed for security personnel. However, in the list of Scheduled employments declared by the NCT of Delhi, the categories of Chowkidar, Durwan, and Watchman have been mentioned as Un-Skilled workers, whereas the Night-Bearer-cum-Chowkidar has been shown in the Semi-Skilled category in some of the Scheduled employments.

The Govt. of Haryana, via their original notification No. 3/42/83-3 Lab, dated 23rd March 2007, published in the Haryana Government Gazette (Extraordinary), contained 47 Scheduled employments. Here, it has been shown that the Security Guard (i) without a weapon is classified as Semi-Skilled ‘A’ and the Security Guard (i) with a weapon as Skilled ‘A’. Similarly, Security Inspector/Security Officer/Supervisor have been placed in the Highly Skilled category.

In view of the above, it is therefore suggested that you may look for minimum wages fixed for your state.
