Concerned About Education Gaps? Seeking Advice on TCS Application for My Brother

Hi all, kindly advise. We have a situation here. It's about my younger brother who finished his 10+2 in 2000. Due to financial crises and family issues, he could not pursue his degree at that time. However, he completed his B.Sc from 2009 to 2011 through a Government University as a private student. He has also been working in an MNC since 2006 to date.

Question About Applying to TCS

My question is, he wants to apply for TCS. Will there be any issues due to the gap in his education?

Academic Background and Employment Gaps

In a given situation, recruiters generally look for a strong academic background with good grades and continuity in education at one go (2009-11). However, if experience stands strong and one can justify reasons for such gaps, I personally don't think it should be a major concern. I have seen such candidates being hired by top MNCs despite such gaps.

Thanks, Aswani, if a person has solid experience in an MNC for 9 years consecutively and holds a good position, I don't think a gap between completing 10+2 and obtaining a degree (2000 - 2009/11) will be a major concern as long as they perform well in the interview and provide a valid reason for the gap.

Addressing a 9-Year Gap in Education

There will certainly be many questions about a 9-year gap in education. What was he doing during this time? Working full-time, at home, or something else?

Not just TCS, but one should be open to many companies in such a situation, and the focus should be on securing a job first.

In 2000, he completed his 10+2. In 2001, he spent a year studying for Pre-Medical Coaching but was unable to secure a placement. From 2002 to 2003, he pursued a one-year hardware networking course at IIHT.

In 2004, he obtained his first job, working for a few months before transitioning to another company where he stayed for 10 months from 2005 to 2006. Since 2006, he has been employed at a top MNC, accumulating 8.5 years of service up to the present.

Realizing the importance of having a degree to advance his career, he decided to enroll as a private student in a degree program. In 2011, he successfully completed his degree in BSc IT. Unfortunately, he had to pause his education previously due to financial constraints and family obligations.

As he's been working for the past 6 years, such a gap should not be a big issue. Corporates are, or rather should be, sensitive to such issues.

Yes, it will be a big concern as TCS is involved. If you provide reasons, they will ask for plenty of supporting evidence. The recruitment desk is not listening to anything as they have many candidates.
