Creating a Learning and Development Manual for My Internship: What Should It Include?

I am supposed to prepare a learning and development manual as a part of my summer internship project for Voltas. Kindly let me know if any company has such a manual and what the expected contents are.

You are an intern who is required to prepare a Learning and Development model for a specific organization. There cannot be a "one size fits all" kind of model, as the training objectives and needs vary with the size, type of industry, and nature of business of the corporates. Thus, the model shall be tailor-made, and therefore, do not go by any other mode. So keeping in view the parameters given by Learning novo, it is better you study the organization with regard to these parameters of training and any other specific factor that has a bearing on this initiative in that company and prepare a model. That would be satisfying, and your work will bear the imprint of originality. All the best.

Dear Sir, A manual/handbook is to be prepared for the inductees/new joinees. Should it contain all the parameters mentioned by Learning Novo? The main objective of the handbook is to provide an overview to the employees regarding the offerings of the organization towards the growth and development of employees.

In my view, the basic parameters can remain the same, and you only need to make them adaptable to the needs of new joiners, such as inducting them into the culture of the organization, nominating a buddy, etc. I would like Learning Novo to respond to it since they seem to be subject experts.

If the main objective of the handbook is to provide an overview to the employees regarding the offerings of the organization towards their growth and development, then the treatment would be different. The main headings could be:

- Company Vision, Values, Philosophy
- Business Units and Their Needs
- Competency Structure (if any) and Their Definitions
- Programs Available for Employees (band-wise)
- Nomination Criteria / How to Nominate Self
- E-learning Programs (if any), Access to Them
- Appraisal Cycle
- Appraisal Form
- Mentor/Buddy Programs
- Coaching and Counseling Services
- Self-Sponsored Programs (Company's Contribution)
- Library Facility
