Starting PF in a Private Company: How to Register and Deduct from Salaries?

priyanka.j@greyorangerobotics.com
I am working in a private limited company. My company wants to start the PF from 1 April 2014. What is the procedure to achieve this, and we want to deduct the PF from employees' salaries as well. Is it possible to do this if we are not registered for the PF?

You can deduct the amount from salaries if the employment strength is equal to or more than 20. Also, note that the application for registration should be submitted to the concerned PF Office in your area. Please feel free to contact.

Thank you, Sir. How much time does it take in the registration process as we want to deduct the PF amount from the April month's salary? Can we deduct PF from the salary and deposit the amount once we get the registration?

The registration process takes 15-30 days, subject to the completion of the required documents for registration. Additionally, you can deduct the PF amount from the salaries of employees and submit it to EPFO after registering with the Department.

Applicability of the Act

The Act is applicable from the date an establishment fulfills the statutory requirements. It's not the wish of the employer to start deducting PF from the date of choice. So, please check when your company employed 20 or more persons, including contractors, casual, or daily wage employees. Also, ensure that your company/establishment is not a unit/branch of an already covered establishment.

For coverage, please go online to the website of EPFO.

I second Mr. Chandok's view; PF registration is not at the discretion of the company/employer but is mandated by the statute of the Act. As mentioned, please check when 20 people were on the roll, as PF applicability starts from that date.
