Steps to Address Poor Performance Before Termination

Before sending a termination letter directly, issue a show cause memo or warning letter for poor performance. Wait for the employee's reply and give them a chance to improve their performance. Even after providing sufficient opportunities for improvement, if the employee is not working as per expectations, termination may be considered. If the employee is under probation, extend the probation period with a clear explanation citing performance below expectations.
