This is a common problem being faced all over the world. As we move up in the ladder of Development, we will face problems for locating people to do unskilled jobs like cleaning. developed nations have tried to make these jobs skilled through a process of automation and attract people. Unfortunately, many in India still try to solve this problem only through higher salaries or leave it to sub contractors to handle. Shrewd operators have insisted on automation

I will not recommend full automation in India but we need to look at partial automation

I can name a few

1. vacuum cleaning using industrial vacuum cleaners.

2. drip irrigation for gardening

3. Mechanical methods for cleaning Toilets

4. Computerisation of Gate pass at gate with Photo card

Please remember that if an organization believes in Cleanliness as integral part of their business, then they will not hesitate in changing certain methods.

And one more thought on this subject:

Housekeeping is different from cleaning. House keeping is everyone's job. If I am doing a job, it is essential that I organize and keep the output in the place assigned. whereas cleaning is something which requires to be done to periodically to remove dirt/dust accumulating. If we do our job alright, then requirement of cleaning will drastically reduce. For example, we throw papers on the floor, instead of throwing in dust bins,

and also examine as to how many House keeping employees are used for other jobs like serving tea, , transferring files/papers etc.

Good day!
I have work with similar service provider and we have encounter same complain with our client, i suggest you arrange a meeting with your current vendor to know causes of these problems., housekeeping is usually modernized in some asian countries.
The problem usually is lack of Manpower, constant communication with the vendor.
Hope this helps

Hello Anu Kumar,
While you have decided to change the contractor this time, it is advisable to find the root cause and know the reasons for such absence and unavailability of housekeeping staff. Do have a common meeting /one to one meeting with contractor and his staff to know their problems as well.
Another idea is from housekeeping staff itself appoint someone senior person as a semi-supervisor kind of a person who shares a good rapport & good relations with them. He should balance both the sides. May be, it will work for you.
All the best!

Dear Mr. Annu,
Pl. look at other alternatives. How to reduce Housekeeping Man hours and to do housekeeping with the existing strength. Will be looking strange at first but with a good training , I believe ,it is possible.
