Salary Limit for ESI Coverage Raised to Rs. 25,000: When Does It Take Effect?

The government has decided to increase the salary limit for coverage of ESI from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000. Please tell me the effective date.

To my knowledge, the ESI Corporation did not issue a circular regarding the enhancement of the salary ceiling limit from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000. We have to wait until then. Therefore, the present ceiling limit is Rs. 15,000.

The rise in the ESIC limit was a populist declaration given by the Labour Ministry of India considering the general elections due in the summer of 2014. However, there is no such notification by the ESIC. On a practical note, there are a lot of hurdles in the revision of the limit, and hence the matter is under consideration. Similarly, the PF ceiling limit, which is proposed to be increased to Rs. 15,000, has not been implemented yet.

The proposal to raise the limit regarding ESI & PF is under consideration. So far, no official notification or circular has been issued by the department apart from a statement given by the Hon'ble Labour Minister, Central Government. I suggest that you should keep watch on the respective sites of ESIC and EPFO on a regular basis.

Amendments in Ceiling Limits of ESI, PF, and Bonus

Amendments in the ceiling limits of ESI, PF, and Bonus have already surfaced for discussions, and there have been newspaper reports on this matter. However, they have not taken effect as of now. The current ESI limit is Rs. 15,000.00.
