How Can a New HR Executive Handle Rule-Breaking Employees and Gain Respect?

Dear seniors, I am working as an HR Executive at a software company. I am new to the HR field, and I am the only HR Executive in my company. Here, most of the employees are following the rules and regulations, but there are a few who are not complying. I am unsure of how to handle the situation when employees do not follow the rules. I find it challenging to reprimand them as I lack the necessary maturity for such confrontations. Please suggest how I can effectively address situations where employees do not adhere to the rules and how I can earn their respect.

Initially, discuss with the branch head the violations of rules and regulations that you have observed. If he agrees with you and is ready to take action, then you can send a polite email clearly stating the rules and regulations and asking everyone to follow them. Please send the email to all employees, including those who are following the rules, and mark a CC copy to the branch head. Be sure to include a line saying, "Thank you in advance for your cooperation!"

Ensure that you can see the change after sending the email. If they continue to violate the rules, you can send a reminder. It would be helpful for us to guide you if you mention the specific rules they are not following.

Anyways, you can try what I suggested above. All the best!

Thanks with best regards,
Yasmeen

Thank you for your valuable information. I am just one month into my new role at this growing IT company. The issue I am facing is that only a few employees have accepted me as an HR. The remaining individuals are not following my instructions and rules. Every day, they arrive late to the office and do not adhere to the correct break timings. Moreover, they tend to engage in excessive talking during working hours and fail to complete their tasks properly.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards

An HR manager is supposed to be a friend of the people, but often people perceive them as an enemy. The role of an HR person is to observe and guide people towards the company's goals, rather than focusing solely on pointing out their failures. It is crucial to first establish a connection with the employees, convey that the HR department is there to support the company, and then evaluate performance at all levels, providing feedback to higher management when necessary.

Merely enforcing rules and regulations cannot foster a positive work environment; it is through building strong human relationships that a productive atmosphere within an organization can be achieved. A true HR professional will strive to create a friendly and motivating environment to ensure the success of the organization.
