Changing Jobs: Do I Need to Renew or Reapply for ESIC with a New Employer?

ESIC Renewal or New Application When Changing Employers

Please suggest to me—when an employee is shifted (resigned or shifted for any reason) to another employer, can ESIC be renewed, or does the employee have to apply for a new ESIC? I know that PF can remain the same for the new employer if the employee accepts, and also ESIC will apply to those whose salary is less than ₹12,000/-. However, here, does salary mean TAKE HOME or CTC?

Any employee who was previously covered under the ESI Act, 1948 should disclose their old Insurance Number to the officials of their new employer. The HR personnel dealing with ESI matters in the new organization, while completing necessary formalities, should disclose the old insurance number of the employee to the concerned Branch Office of ESIC.

The concerned Branch Office of ESIC can make corrections to the ESIC Identity Card previously issued to such an employee. These corrections will include changes regarding the Code Number, etc., of the new employer on the Identity Card.

Furthermore, employees receiving "wages" up to and including Rs. 15,000 per month are covered under the provisions of the above Act at present. Concerning what constitutes "wages," I suggest you refer to the relevant definition of "wages" in the said Act. The term "wages" cannot be defined in terms of words like "CTC" or "take-home salary." For further studies and guidance, I recommend downloading the necessary literature from the website of ESIC.
