Lost Your 10th and 12th Mark Sheets? How to Handle Job Switch Challenges in IT

frustated123
I have lost my 10th and 12th mark sheets, and I do not have any photocopies of them. So, it has become very hard to know my roll number and other related details. I have over 2 years of IT experience, but I do not have any sources to obtain my mark sheets. Now, I want to switch my job, and without the 10th and 12th mark sheets, it seems challenging. Can I submit dummy (fake) mark sheets for the 10th and 12th? However, I do have my original UG and PG mark sheets. Do IT companies in India verify the 10th and 12th mark sheets for experienced professionals like me? Please suggest something.

Thanks and Regards,

Honesty is the Best Policy

Do not ever think of submitting fake documents or experience. As you have degree certificates, 10th and 12th certificates may be needed to verify your date of birth. Be honest and tell them your real situation. I am sure that if you approach the school and college where you studied, they may have records depending upon when you finished your courses.

You are doing the worst thing by submitting a fake mark sheet. You are not only putting your career in jeopardy but also supporting the widespread fake mark sheet rackets happening in India.

If you are a graduate, hardly any company will be concerned about your 10th and 12th mark sheets.

Solutions to Obtain Your Mark Sheets

Still, if you want, there are two simple solutions:

1. Approach the schools and colleges from where you completed your SSC and HSC; they definitely have your record of roll number, and none of the schools destroy it. Then apply to the respective board. The whole process won't take more than 15 days.

2. If your school does not provide the information, then file an RTI application to the board asking for the roll number by providing your name, school, college name, and year of passing. It may take around 2 months. After getting a reply, simply apply with a police complaint copy and an affidavit to the board. As an HR professional, I have given certain employees time to submit such mark sheets, and I am sure HR will help you out too.

It's quite simple and easy. I don't understand why you panic and go to the extent of making things worse for yourself, risking your own future life. You may as well end up behind bars. Never try to fake things. Don't take it for granted that fakes are available by throwing money at some thugs.

Steps to Obtain Duplicate Certificates

What you have to do is approach your HM or the Principal of the institution, submit the necessary application supporting an FIR copy/extract, and an Affidavit attested by the Notary. You will then be issued duplicate certificates. It's not that difficult to obtain. Even individuals with less education who come from villages manage the situation correctly. I'm surprised at how you could panic like this.

Of course, SSLC/PUC Leaving certificates and marks cards are a few of the primary documents always insisted upon by employers, or for that matter, every office, to authenticate your credentials. So, approach the respective offices and obtain them.

Avoid Submitting Fake Documents

First and foremost, don't even think of submitting fake documents for any purpose anywhere.

Steps to Reapply for Credential Certificates

Secondly, you can reapply for your credential certificates even if you are unable to recall your roll number or any relevant detail. Just file an FIR, take a copy of the acknowledgment, then write an application for re-issue directed to the head of your institute where you pursued your schooling. You can easily retrieve all your data like roll number, certificate number, registration number, etc. After that, reapply to the board along with all the data and an application stating the reason for re-issue. There will be a charge for this process; for CBSE, they charge around 500 INR. What's important is that you will receive a copy of all the documents. The whole process should take less than a month.

Hope you get it soon. Keep it safe for the rest of your life. It's better to get it scanned and keep copies everywhere like I did - on my mail, on SkyDrive, on my phone, and on my laptop, as it allows quick forwarding in case of need.

Good day. Take care.

Hello, you should not worry because an online process has been provided for the mark sheet verification for the job. If you do not have the information of your mark sheet, such as roll number, etc., then obtain the information from the school/college from which you have passed class 10th and 12th. After obtaining the information, you can apply for a duplicate mark sheet. If you are a student of the Maharashtra State Board, you can easily download a marksheet copy in DigiLocker. You just need to remember your enrollment number, month, and year, i.e., March and October. I have got all my marksheets in DigiLocker only.

For students from other states, you can easily file an RTI and get it.

Why fake it when you can make it?
