The due date for the submission of the Monthly EPF Contribution is the 15th day of the following month. According to EPF Circular No. C/MD/Apply/Genl/64 dated 28-04-1964, all unexempted establishments were allowed a 5-day grace period. The circular is attached.

Hope this will be helpful for you and all other members.

Grace Period Applicability

The grace period mentioned in the circular applies only to Tamil Nadu, I think. It has been issued by the Chennai Office of the EPFO. I do not think other departments have issued such a circular.

Secondly, that was in the year 1964, and I don't think it is relevant today.

Is the grace period circular still applicable? Does it apply to the entire country?

Thank you.

On the grace period of 5 days, there are two circulars by CPFC. The first one bears No.E.128(1) 60-III dated 19.03.1964, and the second one bears No.E11/128 (Section 14-B Amendment)/73 dated 24.10.1973. Both circulars by CPFC are still valid all over India. I have been trying to obtain copies of both circulars from various sources for a long time. Can anyone help me?

To the best of my knowledge, there was a grace period of one day given for electronic payments, primarily because they clear immediately as compared to payment by a cheque. The circulars for the grace period were only advisory to the field officers, advising them not to take legal action on minor delays. In case of repeated delays, this grace period, to my knowledge, would not apply. In any case, there is no grace period in the online systems which compute interest for any delay.

Dear Saswata ji, I do agree with you to the extent that the grace period should be used sparingly and cannot become a regular practice. I will leave the rest for other seniors and experts to comment on.

Thank you for the information. Can anyone help us to know if we can make e-payments to avoid last-minute hassle and ensure deposits are made within timelines?
