I am a Senior Officer in Human Resources, working in a manufacturing company for the last 3 years. However, 2 months ago, I made a mistake of data tampering for which I remorsefully apologized from the bottom of my heart to my HR manager, both verbally and non-verbally. To me, it was simply a mistake, just a moment of stupidity. He is an extremely generous and cool-minded individual with strong leadership qualities. He listens to my problems carefully and professionally, showing empathy and humanity, truly exemplifying a perfect human resource manager. Eventually, he reversed his decision and transferred me to another unit of the company for 2 months. At that time, my manager was on a notice period, but he clearly stated in my file that I would be transferred to the XYZ unit for 2 months as a form of punishment, and I would return to the Head Office on 1-Jan-2014. This statement was officially documented and signed in my personal file on 8-Nov-2013.
Returning to My Position
My question is, should I return to my position on 1-Jan-2014 without informing anyone in my department? Currently, there is no competent authority in HR, and a new manager is expected to join on the same day. When I discussed this issue with my ex-manager over the phone, he mentioned that since it was documented in my file, there is no need to inform or seek approval from anyone. However, there is an assistant manager in the department, and if I were present, we would both work at the same level based on the company's hierarchy.
What should I do? Should I go back tomorrow directly?
