How To Engage Employees And Make Them Feel Motivated

Shefaligpt
Hi, I am working in an IT company as an HR manager. These days, I am feeling that my employees are getting bored due to the monotonous work schedule. So, I am thinking of how to make them feel motivated and rejuvenated.

I think the situation needs a little more inquiry as to why employees are feeling bored and dull. What is the exact nature of the work? In what way is it monotonous? What can be done to make work interesting? Do you know what aspects of work are considered boring by the employees? I think it is important to get the employees involved in a dialogue to understand what they think about their work and how to improve the situation.

Dear Shefaligpt,

You feel they are bored, but they may not really be bored. As part of breaking the supposed boredom, take them to a workshop outside the workplace to find out the real situation. By doing so, they may come out with the reasons for being bored. Meanwhile, if they are bored because the work is now monotonous, it means they are doing the same thing over the years. The solution is to find them different things to do. For example, if they are mainly engaged in designing websites, you can let them go into designing new software for capturing staff data or software that takes information not through typing but through writing or talking to the computer for the computer to record the information in written texts. The task may be a difficult one, but it would certainly put them on a different pedestal.

Dear Shefali,

With small activities, you can break the monotony. Every morning, you could send a mail with greetings or a nice thought. Consider having short games for half an hour once a week or every 15 days. Additionally, you could organize a monthly birthday celebration for all employees born in that month (budget permitting, a small party or just a cake will suffice). Internal contests like photography, drawing, rangoli on Diwali, etc., could also be engaging.

These are just ideas. As you know your company and employees best, create your own approach and do share it with us so we can also implement it.

Thanks & Regards,
