You can celebrate birthday by this way that I already recommend to most of the companis and they implemented it, its a complete practical appraoch you say.
Last friday of the Month companies celebrated all employees Birthday & Anniversary on the same day, all the employees whose birthday or anniversary fall in that month. If company afford or have a budget for that unless they share few amout by employees also. They gave them a gift by heads/CEO/Directors etc. and have a small party.
