The ceiling limit of ESI is proposed to be increased from 15,000 to 25,000 gross. However, it has not been implemented yet as there is no gazetted notification for the same. According to my sources, it may become effective in the month of April next year. Anyways, let's see, as of now, there has been no gazetted notification issued for this.

Yes, I have also read it, but perhaps the notification to implement it has not been seen so far. If anybody knows, then please share it.

I had taken retirement in September 2009 from a private company. I am currently receiving a family pension. I would like to inquire whether I am eligible to avail benefits of ESI, and if so, what is the procedure for applying.

Thank you.

Not yet has any notification been issued by the authorities regarding an increase in the ceiling of ESIC from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.

I understand that the appropriate Government (Ministry of Labour & Employment, Central Government) has not issued a notification of its intention to amend Rule 50 of ESI (Central Rules), 1950 regarding the enhancement of the wage ceiling under the ESI Act, 1948. Therefore, as of the current date, the wage ceiling remains up to and including Rs. 15,000 per month only and has not been increased.

After the issuance of the notification of intention, the appropriate Government typically allows a period of thirty days for filing objections, etc. Following the lapse of this period of intention notification, the final notification is issued by the appropriate Government, indicating the date from which the amended provisions of the Rules will be applicable.

Retired Insured Persons can only avail of Medical Benefits under the ESI Act, 1948, as per Rule 61 of ESI (Central) Rules, 1950, subject to certain conditions specified in the Rules. If desired, any retired Insured Person can contact the appropriate Branch Office of ESIC along with the documentary proof of eligibility and payment of charges as stipulated in the said Rule.

Thank you.

Best regards

Yes, a notification has to be received. Until now, there have only been rumors and paper statements about the increase of the ESIC limit to Rs. 25,000/-, but no notification from the Government of India (GOI).

There is no official communication from the Department of Labour, Government of India, to date in this regard, but changes are expected in the ESIC limit soon.

Take care,
