Can Retired EPF Pension Holders Access ESI for Medical Treatment?

pradeepgshah
Kindly note that I was working in a private firm. Now, after retirement, I am receiving a meager pension from EPF (Family Pension Scheme). Somebody informed me that I can avail ESI for medical treatment and medication. Kindly inform whether I am eligible for that, and if yes, how and what are the formalities for the same.

Thanks,
P. Shah

Medical Benefit to Retired Insured Persons and Permanently Disabled Insured Persons

On payment of Rs. 10/- per month in a lump sum for one year in advance, medical benefits can be provided (under Section 56 of the Act) to:

- An insured person and his or her spouse who leaves insurable employment on attaining the age of superannuation after being insured for not less than five years, for the period for which contribution is paid.

- An insured person and his/her spouse who ceases to be in insurable employment on account of permanent disablement due to employment injury shall be entitled to medical benefits.

The above statement is as per the act, so please contact the nearest ESIC department.

There is no connection between EPF Pension and ESI. Whether you draw a pension from EPF or not, you may avail all the medical facilities from ESI.

I was a member of ESI until 1998, but after that, my salary crossed the limit. Now, in the year I had taken retirement and am receiving a family pension. Can my family become a member of ESI if I pay the required premium for them? Please inform me as the pension given is very low.
