I have a query: What is the procedure for registering and availing ESI benefits for family members who do not reside with the employee at the working area? I am working in a manufacturing company where 150 employees and workers are registered with ESIC, and most of them belong to other states and cities. They want ESI benefits for their families in their hometown. Is it possible to do this online through the ESI portal?

Procedure for Issuance of ESIC Identity Cards for Families in Different States

Perhaps there is a separate procedure adopted by ESIC for the issuance of individual Identity Cards for families residing in other areas or states. In order to provide medical services for the families of insured persons covered under the ESI Act, the insured person or an authorized officer of the employer needs to visit the appropriate Branch office of ESIC and inquire about obtaining separate Identity Cards for the family members.

ESI benefits can be claimed by family members anywhere in India. However, the HR person of that firm should mention online, while issuing the temporary card, that the dependant's salary is less than Rs. 5,000/- per annum.

The registration work, such as the issuance of Identity cards for the Insured Person and their family, is carried out at the Branch Office of ESIC. Therefore, in my previous comments, I suggested contacting the appropriate ESIC Branch Office. ESI Dispensaries/Hospitals only provide medical facilities based on the Identity Cards issued by the respective ESIC Branch Office where the Insured Person is registered.
