Can I Quit My BPO Job Early Due to Health Issues Without Paying a Penalty?

Saumye
I am currently working with an MNC and am under a service agreement to work with them for at least one year. However, it has been a very bad experience working with my current employer. The training and work environment are really poor. Since November, I have not been well and have not been able to attend the office. My agreement ends in January '14. Can I leave my job on medical grounds before the service agreement ends? Also, the company is a Captive/BPO outsourcing unit. According to the agreement, if I violate the terms and conditions, I shall be liable to pay Rs 75,000 to my employer. I need advice.

Thanks,
Karan

Sure, you just need to submit a medical certificate signed by a registered medical practitioner indicating that you are not well enough to go to the office and perform your job. So, do not wait any longer and apply for medical leave to focus on your health and recover as soon as possible.

Hi Couvery, thanks for the help. Just one more question: if I resign now, will they give me a relieving letter? In case they accept my resignation, will I be free from the agreement and not liable to pay any sum to the company? That is my main concern right now.

Thanks,
Karan
