Are Companies Required to Declare 1st May and 2nd October as Holidays? Seeking Insights from HR Peers

Hi, I know this query has been raised many times in the past, but whenever I work on preparing a holiday list for the new year, this question always comes to mind. This is regarding whether a company has the option to not declare 1st May and 2nd October as holidays. I know they are public holidays, but in the last two years, I have observed that many companies have a working day, especially on 2nd October.

We are a Pune-based IT company. We have a policy of declaring 10 paid holidays a year, and I am in the process of finalizing the list. I am requesting inputs from members.
