Is It Legal to Use Points from Downloaded HR Policy Formats for My Startup?

Sangeeta Debnath
Hi Seniors, I am an HR professional at a new startup BPO company in Bangalore. I am working on various document formats, including drafting an HR Policy. I have downloaded several policy formats and used some points and lines from them while drafting my company's HR policy. Is it illegal to do so? Can I copy or use points from these formats?

I would appreciate your guidance on this matter as it is urgent. Thank you in advance.

Utilizing Copyrighted Formats

Copyrighted formats are not typically uploaded to the internet by the concerned party. However, you can still utilize those formats.

Do be careful, as there are lots of copyright formats on the net. They are not usually marked as such. The common assumption is that if they are in the public domain, then they are free to use by anybody. However, this is not true, as some formats are there to showcase in an effort to promote their sale.

You can view their information and present it in your own format. In some cases, you will be able to improve the format, making it yours or rather the company you work for.

I hope the above helps.
