Late Career Start in HR: Can My Experience Outweigh My Lack of an MBA?

sweetysash
I am a working woman who started her career late in life. I have worked in administration for 10 years and have been in HR for two years now. I have delivered results in HR that any qualified HR professional can achieve. As I am only a graduate and not a full-time MBA holder, I wonder if I will have the opportunity to work in another company where my creative work is valued more than my qualifications.

Thank you!

Yes, you can secure an HR job in any company based on your experience. However, I would recommend obtaining a degree or certification in HR to strengthen your resume in terms of both qualifications and experience.

My second piece of advice is to highlight your HR achievements in your resume.

Firstly, I admire you for starting your career again. Some employers are now looking for skills from experienced candidates rather than qualifications, so you can try. However, to avoid a lack of relevant qualifications hindering your future aspirations in HR or for a better package, I suggest pursuing a part-time MBA in Bhubaneshwar. If that is not feasible, consider a part-time diploma in HR or a certification in HR.

Thank you for answering my query and providing guidance. I am interested in knowing what certifications in HR are available for me to apply for. Could you please guide me on this matter? Also, I am curious to know if there are any certifications that I can pursue online.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Certification Courses in HR

There may be certification courses on psychometric testing, payroll and compensation, generalist HR, soft skills training, talent management, or labor welfare, etc. Try Wellingkar Institute Mumbai or Symbiosis Pune for online courses. Bhubaneshwar itself has some reputed institutes in management. Try there first. All the best.

After seeing your post, one can come to the conclusion that you are very confident in HR. Nowadays, certificates are just the entry passes to attend an interview. As per my knowledge, many companies prefer experience rather than qualifications.

Suggestions for Career Advancement in HR

I suggest you complete a part-time or full-time MBA from a well-recognized university or B-school while continuing in your current position and company. Once you obtain your MBA degree, you can negotiate with recruiters/HRs regarding position and salary. Alternatively, you can pursue a certified course in training, performance appraisal, or any other HR-related topic to gain real-time experience. Companies will be more likely to hire you if you are certified in any HR course, given your 10 years of experience in administration and 2 years in HR.

Wishing you a bright future ahead.
