Stuck as Trainee HR After a Year: How Can I Talk to My Seniors About My Promotion?

Yogendra | HR
I have now completed 1.1 years in HRM. At the time of joining, I was informed that my designation would change after 6 months. However, my designation is still the same as Trainee HR. Could you please advise me on how I can discuss this with my seniors?

Thanks and Regards,
Yogendra

You can discuss with your boss because he informed you that after the completion of your training period, your designation will be changed. Is there proof of a document for the six-month training period? If so, you can discuss with your boss to regularize your services and redesignate accordingly.

All the best.

Ganesh

Hi Yogendra, I believe one year is the appropriate time for a change in designation. Please discuss this with your manager to initiate the change either now or during the upcoming appraisal cycle.

From the details you have provided, it is not clear whether you have received your training closure/confirmation letter or not. It is possible that your Special Performance Appraisal Report (SPAR) for the last six months, which was necessary to conclude your probation/training period, has not yet reached the HR department along with other requisite documents such as Safety/Vigilance/Departmental Clearance (especially crucial in some industries for the production department). Once the HR Department receives your SPAR along with these reports (if necessary in your industry), they will issue the appropriate order in accordance with the terms of your appointment with retrospective effect. Please do not worry.

Good luck,

TITLES DO NOT MATTER. DELIVERY OF RESULTS AND PERFORMANCE ONLY MATTER.

Have they mentioned in your appointment order that you will be redesignated after six months? As long as you are delivering good results in your day-to-day work, let your title wait for more time. There is a danger in broaching the subject officially as they may terminate your service, citing that your training performance was not up to the mark. They can provide adequate proof to support their decision. COOL IT. WAIT, AND ONCE YOUR ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW COMES THROUGH, DISCUSS IT UNOFFICIALLY AND LATER OFFICIALLY WITH YOUR IMMEDIATE SUPERIOR.
