How Do You Handle Farewells for Long-Serving Employees Who Resign?

Ywaipl11
I am working with an MNC as an HR manager. Last week, a senior manager left due to resignation. We could not arrange a send-off function on the last day as per our company's rules. Our management informed us that if an employee resigns, there will be no function. However, if an employee continues their service for more than 3, 5, or 10 years, then we should give them a gift to appreciate their longer tenure. If there is any specific policy regarding this, please provide me with the information.

Company Philosophy on Employee Send-Offs

It is more a philosophy of the company about its employees that will govern the policy on such occasions. There are companies that believe in the philosophy that a human resource has value forever and even felicitate the ex-employees for their contributions to the company under their policies. They believe that it is only the employer-employee relationship that is severed upon resignation, but not the recruiter-resource relationship. Thus, they send a message that they are willing to hire them in the future, and their doors are open to them.

Thus, there is no hard and fast rule governing a send-off policy.
